Biography

Simon Payne’s experimental video works have been shown in numerous international film festivals, cinemas and art galleries including: Anthology Film Archives, New York; the Ann Arbor, Edinburgh, London and Rotterdam international film festivals; the European Media Arts Festival, Osnabrück; Pacific Film Archives, San Francisco; Media City Festival, Windsor, Ontario; the Serpentine Gallery; Whitechapel Gallery; Camden Arts Centre; Tate Britain and Tate Modern; and the Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg. His videos are distributed by LUX (London), Lightcone (Paris) and are also kept at the British Artists' Film and Video Study Collection at Central St. Martins College of Art. He has written widely on experimental cinema for a number of journals and magazines and recently co-edited the book Kurt Kren: Structural Films with A.L. Rees and Nicky Hamlyn. Simon Payne has also often curated and introduced film programmes internationally. He is Reader in Film and Media at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, and lives in London.
